Change to Mountain Bike Display

Unfortunately we have had to have a change to the rider for the mountain bike display, but this does not mean we have got any less a display. In fact we have got an amazing rising talent  in Jack Carthy who we have met with today and will be with us on Sunday showing off his amazing skills, and this young man is only 16yrs old. Check out Jacks video here Jack Carthy Episode 1 follow Jack on Facebook here Jack Carthy Facebook after watching his video's I'm sure you will want to come down on Sunday and see this young man in action.

We have also been fortunate enough to secure Colin Farrar as a sponsor for the mountain bike display to cover any expenses we have incurred. Along side this Colin has put up 2 prizes of £50 for a drop goal competition, this is for U16's and over 17's, it will cost £1 to enter and everyone who kicks a goal will go into a draw to win the £50, so bring your kicking boots!!!

Don't forget the volunteers meeting tomorrow night (Thursday) at Keighley rugby club at 7pm, if you can help then we would love to see you there.

One Week to TAG RUGBY 2013

With one week to go we have now had the first glimpse of the referees kit for the day and it looks amazing. We hope you agree and that our referee's agree too.

We have a meeting at Keighley Rugby Union Club on Thursday night for everyone wanting the help out with volunteering at the event on Sunday 26th May. We need people from 8am to 5pm to cover everything from stalls, to pitches, bouncy castles, and lots of other jobs too. If you can only help for an hour every little is most welcome by Nathan and everyone involved in the event.

We need to give another big thank you to Jason Robinson for his unwavering support of the event and Nathan's Trust, without Jason we would have struggled to get such great sponsors on board. A massive big thank you to TXM Recruit, Grange Jaguar, and Hardcore Personal Training for sponsoring the event. Also to Phoenix Utilities for being our match ball sponsors for the day.

We also have the guys from  Hog Roast Yorkshire with us for the event once again, and if last year was anything to go by, then I know that they will be very busy and Nathan will be at the front of the queue for the pork crackling this year.

We still have the mountain bike stunt display, but this is proving to be the hardest part of the whole event to organise, due to one of the riders now having a wedding and the other rider changing sponsors and having an event the day before. I have been promised by Chris Akrigg that we will still have a top display for you all to watch and I am working on this hour by hour at the moment.

With regards the referee's I am sending out an email today just to check on the numbers attending, but we welcome anyone that can referee contacting us also on nathantagrugby@gmail.com

If you can donate a raffle prize or tombola prize we would still welcome these, and to do so, please contact Mark Dunstan on nathantagrugby@gmail.com or 07595337159.

We currently have a signed England shirt with a certificate of authentication from the RFU, and signed Leeds Carnegie shirt, we have been promised a signed Keighley Cougars shirt, plus other prizes, but would welcome more. Everyone who donates will go on the blog and on Nathan's Trust Facebook and twitter accounts also.

Don't worry if you have not entered your team yet, we will take entries up until Wednesday evening, just to keep Mark on his toes. It only costs £30 per team, you need 7 players minimum and there is a prize for best fancy dress. The event is fun first and competition second, we welcome teams from all back grounds to enter, and mixed teams are more than welcome as if a female scores then this counts as 2 points not 1, so come on and get your last minute entries in to us at nathantagrugby@gmail.com details of how to enter and rules can also be found here Enter Tag Rugby

Nathan & The Extension

As the event manager for Nathan I sometimes think that people think that now he his home from hospital everything has been done and his care is just spot on. I thought after seeing a Facebook post from Naomi, that I would tell you some of the on going things and challenges for Nathan and the family.

With planning permission passed and quotes now starting to come in the family are looking at around £45,000 for the extension that will give Nathan his own bedroom, wetroom and living area, then they need the lift to get Nathan between the floors which is going to be around £17,000, also the specialist kitchen with units that will enable Nathan to be able to make himself something to eat and drink without having to wait for someone to do this for him.

This extension is not going to be a quick fix and fast build and until this is done, then Nathan will continue to live in the dinning room with no wet room unless the family drive him to his grans house and give him a shower there.

Access in and out of the house isn't even easy, Nathan can't enter or leave the house without someone being there to help him, by opening the door and putting a metal sheet over the door threshold so that Nathan can then get over this. This metal sheet wasn't provided by anyone, it had to be made by Matt at work just so they could get Nathan in and out of the house without injuring themselves.

Nathan needs a chair so that he is not sat in his wheelchair all the time when he is out of bed, but due to the nature of his injury, this can't be just any chair, it needs to be a specialist bespoke made chair to suit Nathan and is currently being made, but at a cost of around £4,000. This has taken some work with Richard Benson from Richards Residential Supplies of Colne who has spent time with Nathan to get this just right for him.

Health wise Nathan suffers from lots of complications with regards having to be sat in his wheelchair or laid in his bed, and although he has carers and districts nurses coming in to see him at least twice a day. He still suffers from bad days and infections alongside the normal colds and upset stomachs we all get. But with Nathan the smallest thing can set off Autonomic dysreflexia (AD) which if not treated very quickly is life threatening. The family have to carry around a GTN  spray just in case he starts going into AD.

I would ask you if you could cope with this on a day to day basis? This amazing young man and his family do and don't complain at all.
